There are different thoughts around making the change. These are our two recommended methods.
The Recommended Option.
Feed your dog the last (kibble / "fresh" ) meal or count the hours since since your dog's last meal.
Place your dog on a 12 to 48 hour fast.
We tend to lean closer towards the 48h. But you know your dog best.
Serve up a bowl of Leo's Raw Dog Food and watch your dog feast.
The Popular Option.
Plan for this process to last anywhere between 3 days to 2 weeks. The average being 7 days or 1 full week. The duration of the transition is dependent on age, weight, and activity level.
Feed each meal at separate times as both foods are consumed and processed at different rates.
Over the transition course gradually decrease the amount of usual food and increase the amount of Leo's Raw Dog Food until your dog's diet consists of 100% raw food.

Keep close observation of your dog during this time. If you are noticing loose stools early then cut back on the raw food and increase it at a slower rate adjusting and extending your course duration.
A successful reaction should be small and firm stool consistency, which is due to better nutrient absorption.
Alternatively your dog may accept the introduction of raw food very well and you may decide to shorten the course duration.
As you switch your dog's diet to raw you will see a change in their stool.
Mostly due to the increased water content of the raw meat and vegetables, the stools will be softer than usual.
You will also notice stools are now smaller and less often. Overtime stools will begin to harden once again as your dog regulates its water intake.
An option for picky eaters. Start by cooking the food at low heat to help with the transition and pique the interest of reluctant dogs.
Cook the food halfway through and cook it less and less over a week until it is completely raw.
Dogs that suffer from gastrointestinal problems or immune deficiencies may require to have their food lightly cooked.
For older dogs that have been fed kibble, commercial wet food or "fresh" food most their lives try adding probiotics and digestive enzymes to their meals.
This can help their digestive system reboot and begin developing the enzymes necessary to break down raw foods, ultimately easing their diet transition.
Puppies can begin eating raw soon after they wean off their mother's milk (typically 3 to 4 weeks old).
They should be fed one protein at a time for at least a week before switching to another protein.
Dogs with sensitivities should be observed carefully. Although we believe in serving your dog raw food, we also recognize that some dogs have begun to develop raw food sensitivities.
Some dogs may go through a detox period, where their system releases any toxin build up from their previous diet. During this time they may experience some loose or mucous stool, runny eyes, excretions through their ears, and sometimes their coat begins a shed cycle. All of this is positive and should be viewed as their body ridding itself of toxins.
Each detox period should last for a few days, after which your dog should look and feel much better.
If symptoms persist for more than a few days, please contact your vet and have them checked over for other medical problems.
